Ally possesses a unique skill set, having completed a computing degree prior to qualifying as a CA with a Big-Four firm. During his time in practice, Ally gained experience with a variety of clients, ranging from SME businesses to large FTSE listed groups. This included two secondments within the Petrofac Group.   

Since moving to financial roles in industry, he has utilised his skills to develop process improvements and efficiencies which have generated savings for businesses, whilst also improving the overall integrity of financial and management reporting.   

Ally is an advanced Excel user with expertise in developing new financial models and automating processes through Visual Basic macros. He is also adept at learning new systems and finding more effective ways of using them.    

Since joining Hutcheon Mearns, Ally has undertaken several interim Financial Controller roles, where he has been praised for his capability to create efficiencies for clients through improving and automating processes. Throughout this time, Ally has continued to develop his understand of modern tools and technologies, such as Microsoft’s Power Platform, and now uses these skills to lead Hutcheon Mearns’ Insights service offering – specifically focusing on Power BI and Excel Automation.   


4 years in Assurance at Deloitte, 8 years in senior industry finance roles.
