Craig Hutcheon CA Managing Director – Advisory & Specialists

Craig qualified as a CA in 2005 with KPMG in Aberdeen. Since qualifying Craig has become well respected for his efforts with Reservoir Group where he was Group Financial Controller, managing a finance team across the globe. Craig is driven by a passion to deliver a real value added service to clients and has all the skills necessary to deliver this to each assignment he embarks upon.  Craig founded Hutcheon Mearns in 2015 to solve the resource problems he faced while leading a finance team.

Adam Maitland Managing Director – Corporate Finance

Adam joined Hutcheon Mearns in 2017 to lead our corporate finance and strategic advisory offering. Adam has over 10 years of corporate development and transaction related experience – ranging from Corporate Finance and Investment Banking to in-house Corporate Development for a Private Equity backed Oilfield Services group of companies.  Latterly, Adam led PwC’s Oil & Gas Corporate Finance offering in the UK, prior to which he was in-house corporate development for Private Equity backed Reservoir Group and responsible for developing, executing and delivering the group’s strategic plans.

Rick Clark CA Non-Executive Board Member

Rick joined the Hutcheon Mearns Board in 2016 to help guide the business through its rapid growth providing direction and experience to the Board.  Having spent 15 years as a Partner at KPMG before a career as CFO with private equity-backed businesses Rick has the ideal blend of skills and experience for his advisory role with Hutcheon Mearns.  Rick is also a partner in specialist investor Eos Advisory (https://eos-advisory.com/), a trustee of the charity Dundee Heritage Trust (https://www.dundeeheritagetrust.co.uk/) and a non-executive director of the Insights businesses (https://www.insights.com/ and https://vidatec.com/).

Andrew McLeod FCCA Head of Resourcing

Andrew gained his accountancy training with EY in Aberdeen where he gained his ACCA qualification. Prior to this he worked in house for a private equity backed oil and gas service company, where he assisted with the implementation of an ERP system, in addition to spending time in operations, engineering and finance.  During his time at EY, Andrew worked in both the Assurance and Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) Departments and he was heavily involved with EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year programme.  Andrew took the decision to leave EY in 2018 to become Resourcing Manager at Hutcheon Mearns where he hit the ground running and quickly established himself as our lead recruiter using his knowledge of accountancy to effectively match candidates with roles that suited their skills and ambitions.

Claire Clark CA Head of Specialists and Transaction Services

Claire qualified as a CA in 2003 with KPMG in Aberdeen. On qualification, Claire transferred to KPMG Transaction Services for five years where she provided services including: financial due diligence, vendor diligence and strategic support on a number of high profile transactions. Claire moved in to the oil service industry in 2008 at private equity backed Triton Group. She quickly progressed to Group and UK Regional Controller and was heavily involved in the sale to Forum Energy Technologies and its subsequent listing. Claire also lectured at Robert Gordon University in Accounting and Finance and is a member of the ICAS Grampian committee. In 2019 Claire assumed the role of Head of Specialists to lead the provision of interim and project support by our exceptional team.

Jane Setter CA Resourcing Manager

Jane completed her CA training with EY in Aberdeen before embarking on a career in Accounting and Finance recruitment with Page Group in both Perth, Australia and Aberdeen. Her business and relationship skills at Page Group were recognised through several recruitment awards. More recently Jane has worked with start-up Executive Search business MG Search, where she focused on sourcing senior level talent while establishing and developing new business. Jane joined Hutcheon Mearns as Resourcing Manager to complement their market leading team and specialises in permanent and temporary Accounting and Finance recruitment.

Naill Benzahia CA Advisory Specialist

Naill graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2014 with a first-class honours degree in Accountancy and Finance.  Upon graduating Naill joined EY in Aberdeen where he completed his CA training, qualifying in 2017.  Naill managed a diverse client base at EY including a mixture of E&P and oil services companies, from large international listed companies to private equity backed.  Whilst at EY, Naill headed up Innovation for Aberdeen, working as part of a network across the UK to develop and implement new methodologies and emerging technologies. Since joining Hutcheon Mearns in 2018, Naill has been involved in a wide range of advisory projects including M&A advisory, due diligence, fundraising, financial modelling, finance optimisation reviews and corporate development support.  Naill possesses strong analytical and data processing skills and is an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Graeme Park CA CFO Specialist

Graeme is ICAS qualified with 30 years senior finance experience in multinational plc’s, PE back businesses and family owned enterprises. After qualifying with EY in Glasgow, Graeme moved to London where he spent five years with Diageo plc and six years with BBA Aviation plc as Group Financial Controller.  In 2005, Graeme moved to Aberdeen where he worked for Wood Group plc and FirstGroup plc as Group Financial Controller, with the last three years being as CFO of the UK Bus Division in a more all-encompassing senior management role, which included the implementation of a division-wide change management programme and non-core asset disposal process. Moving into the PE backed arena as CFO, firstly with Atlas Knowledge (online training business) then latterly with TWMA Group (oil services). Graeme oversaw the successful sale of TWMA to a new PE owner in 2017.

Stephen Barclay CA Senior Specialist

A qualified Chartered Accountant, Stephen completed his training with Coopers & Lybrand/PwC in 1998. He has over 20 years of post qualifying experience in a variety of divisional and group finance roles, in both oil service and non-oil companies. His most recent roles were 3 years as Group Finance Manager in the Group Finance team at FirstGroup plc and before that several Financial Controller positions at Petrofac (circa $1.5bn turnover) over a 9 year period of significant growth. Stephen has undertaken a number of large projects spanning the technical accounting spectrum and has been involved in several M&A transactions.  He is great team leader having successfully managed finance teams of up to 20 in his career to date with a particular emphasis on coaching and progression.

Piotr Wisthal CA Senior Specialist

Piotr is a highly skilled Chartered Accountant who trained with PwC in Aberdeen. During that time he specilalised in E&P clients with leading roles on Shell, Centrica and Ithaca audits, which enabled him to gain exposure to all aspects of E&P accounting. In addition to this, Piotr completed a five month secondment to Endeavour Energy as a Business Analyst, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. Having moved to industry, Piotr has gained extensive experience in PE backed oil and gas service companies, working in both corporate and operational roles. His main strengths are identifying efficiencies and finding pragmatic solutions. He has been instrumental in developing and streamlining reporting processes for our clients while seamlessly covering interim roles. In addition, Piotr is a systems and Excel expert.

Scott Garden CA Senior Specialist

Scott gained his Chartered Accountancy qualification while training with Johnston Carmichael in Aberdeen.  On completion of his training, Scott moved to Asco Group in Aberdeen where he was instrumental in setting up a new group accounting function and undertook a variety of finance projects in addition to his day to day duties in the finance team.  Scott undertook a number of International assignments during his time at Asco Group, namely to Australia, Canada, USA, Norway and Dubai.  He is accustomed to working in a variety of different environments and has strong experience in Management and Statutory reporting.

Melanie Bruce CA Senior Specialist

Melanie gained her CA qualification at Ritson Smith in 2009 where she gained experience of Audit and Corporate Finance.  In 2011 Melanie moved into industry where she progressed her career in Oil and Gas Service Companies providing exceptional support to meet their operational and corporate goals with the ability to understand the operations of a business, and its various functions.  Her experience has included preparing detailed financial analysis, monthly and year end reporting, controls and procedures. In addition, she has been involved in financial due diligence assignments and corporate structuring. Melanie’s varied experience means that she has knowledge of a wide range of accounting software and ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, AS400, SAGE, Intuitive, Dimensions and Insphire.

Ally Mitchell CA Senior Specialist

Ally has a unique skill set having completed a Computing degree prior to his Deloitte CA training. While in practice, Ally obtained eight Deloitte Limelight awards and an Audit Recognition Award. Since moving to financial roles in industry, he has utilised his skills to develop process improvements and efficiencies which have generated savings for the business, whilst also improving the overall integrity of financial and management reporting. Ally is an advanced Excel user with expertise in developing new financial models and automating processes through Visual Basic macros. He is also adept at learning new systems and finding more effective ways of using them.

Fiona Adam CA Senior Specialist

Fiona trained as a CA with A2B in Aberdeen which enabled her to gain extensive experience in preparing and auditing group consolidated accounts for small and large international groups. Her time at A2B included an industry placement with Subsea 7.  In 2012 Fiona moved into industry as a Senior Business Analyst with US owned CHC Helicopters. In this role she was responsible for budgeting and forecasting with contract bids.  Following this, Fiona assumed a progressive role with Rever Offshore where, given her dynamic skill set, she became trusted as the CFO’s right-hand person for finance projects. This included being involved in a high yield bond issue, board paper production and the conversion of the bond to private equity.

Rachael Clark Assoc. CIPD Resourcing Consultant

Rachael began her career with Standard Life Aberdeen where she supported the Early Careers team with recruitment and development of Graduates and Apprentices across Investment Management, Distribution, Operations and Technology divisions.  Having also assisted with the integration of the Early Career programmes during the £11bn merger with Standard Life Plc, she joined Hutcheon Mearns in early 2019. Rachael is currently studying towards Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management following attaining the Intermediate Diploma in February 2020. She focuses on the recruitment for both temporary and permanent roles within the Transactional and Part Qualified market.

Lois Wood CA Student Advisory Analyst

Lois graduated with an honours degree in Accountancy and Finance from the Robert Gordon University in 2016.  During her studies, she gained practical experience across a number of industry sectors, which included working for a small accountancy firm.  Lois joined Hutcheon Mearns in 2017 to provide a range of key support services, with a focus on our innovative, bespoke finance recruitment offering where she was responsible resourcing transactional roles in finance teams.  In 2019 Lois expressed an interest in obtaining a professional qualification and is currently studying towards her ICAS qualification.  To facilitate this move Lois transferred to our Business Advisory team as an Analyst where she is gaining the necessary experience towards her qualification.

Karolina Slowik-Skiba Assistant Accountant

Karolina graduated from university with a degree in Journalism and Social Communication and subsequently a Masters in Finance and Accounting in Poland.  After her studies she spent one year working as a junior accountant in the local family business. In 2014 Karolina moved to Aberdeen gaining employment in the hospitality industry before joining Hutcheon Mearns in September 2015 as our Office and Administration Specialist.  During her time at Hutcheon Mearns Karolina has progressed internally to provide internal accounting support to the business and is a highly valued member of our team.

Sarah Hay Administration Assistant

Sarah joined Hutcheon Mearns in 2020 following a career break to raise her family.  Sarah brings a wealth of prior administrative experience and organisation skills to Hutcheon Mearns having spent 10 years working in the Financial Services sector at a local law firm where laterly she fulfilled the role of Administration Manager.  Sarah supports the whole team at Hutcheon Mearns to ensure an exceptional level of standards is maintained for our clients.

Julita Stachowiak CA Associate

JulitaA qualified Chartered Accountant, Julita completed her training with KPMG in 2013 having previously spent a year with Chiene and Tait in Edinburgh whilst she completed her CA education. Since her time in practice Julita has held Group Finance Manager positions in oil and gas companies Reservoir Group and LR Senergy. She has hands on experience of managing monthly group reporting for multi national service companies in a private equity backed environment and has undertaken integration work in two significant transactions. Julita relocated to Poland in 2019 and services clients on an Associate basis.

Darren McDonald CA Associate

Darren qualified as a CA with Meston Reid & Co in 2014, previously spending fifteen months with PwC whilst completing his education.  In the latter half of his time in practice Darren was heavily involved in management accounting consultancy work on a continuous three month basis for one client and periodically for others. Darren moved into industry in a Financial Controller role with an ambitious, fast-paced start-up and was responsible for the implementation and the adaption of controls, processes and systems in-line with the growth of the business and take on of eventually two members of accounting staff. Darren works for Hutcheon Mearns on an Associate basis when he has availability outwith his role at Granite Accountants.

Jane Belyea CA Senior Specialist

A Canadian qualified Chartered Professional Accountant, Jane completed her training with EY in 1998.  She has 20 years of post-qualifying experience in both public practice and industry. Her practice experience includes several years of audit in a variety of industries, including oil and gas service companies and manufacturing. In addition, she has transaction experience on buy side diligence.  Jane’s industry experience includes both oil and gas and energy sectors.  Her most recent role was the Divisional Controller of a power generation company; prior experience includes Director of Accounting of a residential regulated energy service provider and the Manager of Corporate Reporting and Project Finance Manager roles at Shell in Canada.  While in these industry roles, Jane gained in depth experience in corporate reporting (external and internal reporting), planning and budgeting, internal controls reviews, shared services migrations, system conversions and leading/managing teams.   Since joining Hutcheon Mearns in late 2019, Jane has provided support on year end reporting matters as well as statutory reporting.
