Craig Hutcheon CA Managing Director – Advisory & Specialists

Craig Hutcheon

Craig qualified as a CA in 2005 with KPMG in Aberdeen. Since qualifying Craig has become well respected for his efforts with Reservoir Group where he was Group Financial Controller, managing a finance team across the globe. Craig is driven by a passion to deliver a real value added service to clients and has all the skills necessary to deliver this to each assignment he embarks upon.  Craig has personally recruited for positions around the globe.

Adam Maitland Managing Director – Corporate Finance

Adam joined Hutcheon Mearns in 2017 to lead our corporate finance and strategic advisory offering. Adam has over 10 years of corporate development and transaction related experience – ranging from Corporate Finance and Investment Banking to in-house Corporate Development for a Private Equity backed Oilfield Services group of companies.  Latterly, Adam led PwC’s Oil & Gas Corporate Finance offering in the UK, prior to which he was in-house corporate development for Private Equity backed Reservoir Group and responsible for developing, executing and delivering the group’s strategic plans.

Piotr Wisthal CA Senior Specialist

Piotr is a highly skilled Chartered Accountant who trained with PwC in Aberdeen. During that time he specilalised in E&P clients with leading roles on Shell, Centrica and Ithaca audits, which enabled him to gain exposure to all aspects of E&P accounting. In addition to this, Piotr has completed a five month secondment to Endeavour Energy as a Business Analyst, reporting directly to the Head of Finance. Having moved to industry, Piotr has gained extensive experience in PE backed oil and gas service companies, working in both corporate and operational roles. His main strengths are identifing efficiencies and finding pragmatic solutions. He has been instrumental in developing and streamlining reporting processes. In addition, Piotr is a systems and Excel expert.

Julita Stachowiak CA Senior Specialist

JulitaA qualified Chartered Accountant, Julita completed her training with KPMG in 2013 having previously spent a year with Chiene and Tait in Edinburgh whilst she completed her education. Since her time in practice Julita has held Group FinanceManager positions in oil and gas companies Reservoir Group and LR Senergy. She has hands on experience of managing monthly group reporting for multi national service companies in a private equity backed environment and has undertaken integration work in two significant transactions. She has exceptional systems expertise and technical ability.

Darren McDonald CA Senior Specialist

Darren qualified as a CA with Meston Reid & Co in 2014, previously spending fifteen months with PwC whilst completing his education. In the latter half of his time in practice Darren was heavily involved in management accounting consultancy work on a continuous three month basis for one client and periodically for others. Darren moved into industry in a Financial Controller role with an ambitious, fast-paced start-up and was responsible for the implementation and the adaption of controls, processes and systems in-line with the growth of the business and take on of eventually two members of accounting staff.

Scott Garden CA Senior Specialist

Scott Garden

Scott gained his Chartered Accountancy qualification while training with Johnston Carmichael in Aberdeen.  On completion of his training, Scott moved to Asco Group in Aberdeen where he was instrumental in setting up a new group accounting function and undertook a variety of project work in addition to his day to day duties in the finance team.  Scott undertook a number of International assignments during his time at Asco Group and therefore is accustomed to working in a variety of different environments.


Naill Benzahia CA Senior Accountant

Naill BenzahiaNaill graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2014 with a first-class honours degree in Accountancy and Finance. Upon graduating Naill joined EY in Aberdeen where he completed his CA training, qualifying in 2017.

Naill managed a diverse client base at EY. This was a mixture of E&P and oil services companies, from large international listed companies to private equity backed. This experience gave him exposure to the underlying accounting entries required in relation to mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, he has performed multiple impairment analyses of assets, goodwill and investments. He prides himself on his technical knowledge, understanding of upstream accounting and his ability to solve complex problems.

Whilst at EY, Naill headed up Innovation for EY’s Aberdeen office, working as part of a network across the UK to develop and implement new methodologies and emerging technologies.

Naill possesses strong analytical and data processing skills and is an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Claire Clark CA Business Development Manager


Claire qualified as a CA in 2003 with KPMG in Aberdeen. On qualification, Claire transferred to KPMG Transaction Services for five years where she provided services including: financial due diligence, vendor diligence and strategic support on a number of high profile transactions. Claire moved in to the oil service industry in 2008 at private equity backed Triton Group. She quickly progressed to Group and UK Regional Controller and was heavily involved in the sale to Forum Energy Technologies and its subsequent listing. Claire also lectured at Robert Gordon University in Accounting and Finance and is a member of the ICAS Grampian committee.

Lois Wood Associate Consultant


Lois graduated with an honours degree in Accountancy and Finance from the Robert Gordon University in 2016. During her university studies, she gained practical experience across a number of industry sectors, which included working for a small accountancy firm. In addition, she has a depth of experience gained in the conference and banqueting industry, recently returning from a winter season in Wengen, Switzerland. Lois joined Hutcheon Mearns to provide a range of key support services, with a focus on our innovative, bespoke finance recruitment offering. She is responsible for supporting the Directors’ to manage recruitment projects, conducting research on a variety of assignments, screening and formatting CV’s, and coordinating interviews. Lois also focuses on our service levels to ensure that an exceptional experience is delivered to both clients and candidates.

Stephen Barclay CA Senior Specialist

Stephen BarclayA qualified Chartered Accountant, Stephen completed his training with Coopers & Lybrand/PwC in 1998. He has 20 years of post qualifying experience in a variety of divisional and group finance roles, in both oil service and non-oil companies. His most recent roles were 3 years as Group Finance Manager in the Group Finance team at FirstGroup plc and before that several Financial Controller positions at a large global business unit of Petrofac (circa $1.5bn turnover) over a 9 year period of significant growth. Stephen has undertaken a number of large projects and been involved in several M&A transactions.

Karolina Slowik-Skiba Assistant Accountant

Karolina SlowikKarolina Graduated from university with a degree in Journalism and Social Communication and subsequently a Masters in Finance and Accounting in Poland. After her studies she spent one year working as a junior accountant in the family business. In 2014 Karolina moved to Aberdeen gaining employment in the hospitality industry before joining Hutcheon Mearns in September 2015 as our Office and Administration Specialist.

Andrew McLeod ACCA Resourcing Manager

Andrew gained his accountancy training with EY in Aberdeen and it was here that he qualified through ACCA. Prior to this he worked in house for a private equity backed oil and gas service company, where he assisted with the implementation of an ERP system, in addition to spending time in operations, engineering and finance.

During his time at EY, Andrew worked in both the Assurance and Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) Departments and he was heavily involved with EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year programme. Whilst in Assurance, Andrew worked on a number of Oil and Gas companies including FTSE 100 E&P operators. Transferring to EY’s TAS department after qualifying, he focused on financial due diligence and vendor due diligence on several high profile transactions.
