Paul began his career working in Brussels before moving back to Scotland and establishing a successful career in financial services working for National Australia Group, RBS, Baillie Gifford, Airdrie Savings Bank, Morgan Stanley, Blackrock and Lloyds Banking Group where he held a number of managerial roles, covering BAU roles and projects: adoption of IFRS, SOX, implementation of new systems and end to end process efficiencies.
Most recently, Paul has worked as a contractor for Ventient Energy, Grant Thornton and Iomart plc. At Ventient Energy, Paul was responsible for leading an entity rationalisation project, completion of UK accounts for both the consolidated group and its subsidiaries and adoption of IFRS 16. Most recently, Paul supported Iomart plc where the incumbent group reporting team had left prior to completion of the group statutory accounts. Paul stepped in to complete the back end of the group accounts and complete the audited subsidiary companies and non-audited entities. Having held management roles, Paul is confident supporting and coaching other team members, particularly around areas which require “out of the box” thinking in problem solving situations.
Paul has very well-rounded skillset and has all the attributes of a strong specialist – he takes the lead on his assignments, is great at problem solving, proactively engages with his clients and is very personable. Paul joined the Central Belt Specialist team in 2025 and is looking forward to utilising his experience and skillset in assisting the wide range of Hutcheon Mearns’ Clients. Paul is a great asset to any finance team he works with.

Paul is an experienced finance professional with 30+ years’ experience, working in financial services for approximately 25 years, but more recently has been a contractor for a number of different companies, often stepping into difficult circumstances and helping them to resolve problems, always leaving the Company in a better shape than when he first arrived.
